3rd Annual Guitars Over Guns Gala

Chicago, IL — September 20, 2025 Crafted by Pam Greer Visualized by Summer Coleman

The 3rd Annual Guitars Over Guns Gala at Amazing Space was nothing short of electric — a night where artistry, mentorship, and community came together to raise over $100,000 for youth empowerment through music.

A Stage Full of Stars

Hosted by journalist Samantha Chapman, the evening spotlighted the transformative power of Guitars Over Guns (GOGO). The GOGO student band opened the night with a set that proved the next generation of Chicago talent is already here. They were followed by Chicago hip-hop artist and GOGO Regional Director Add-2, who reminded the audience that hip-hop is a tool for confidence and truth-telling.

The stage then welcomed:

  • Grammy & Academy Award-winner Rhymefest, blending artistry with activism.

  • Grammy-winning poet J. Ivy, whose words carried rhythm and resilience.

  • MTV host Dometi Pongo, bringing his signature storytelling energy.

And then came the night’s most unforgettable moment: a surprise performance from Chance the Rapper, who turned the gala into a South Side celebration, underscoring the deep ties between Chicago’s music scene and its youth.

Vibe & Presence

Behind the decks, Slot A kept the energy flowing, curating the vibe between sets and ensuring the room never lost momentum. In the crowd, community leaders and supporters mingled — including Illinois State Representative Kam Buckner, whose presence highlighted the importance of political and civic support for arts-based youth programs.

More Than Music

Through live auctions, raffles, and community giving, the gala raised over $100,000 to expand mentorship, music education, and safe creative spaces for young people across Chicago.

Final Word

The 3rd Annual Guitars Over Guns Gala wasn’t just a fundraiser — it was a movement.

With students, stars, and civic leaders under one roof, the night proved that when Chicago invests in its youth, the return is immeasurable. And with Chance’s surprise set as the exclamation point, the message was clear: music is more than art — it’s a lifeline, a mentor, and a future.
