Wednesday night at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre wasn’t just a concert—it was a time machine. As the sun dipped behind the trees of Tinley Park, fans gathered to relive the soundtrack of their youth, and Nelly, the St. Louis legend himself, delivered a performance that was equal parts throwback and triumph.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of his Diamond-certified debut album, Country Grammar, Nelly headlined the Where The Party At tour alongside hip-hop heavyweights Ja Rule, Eve, Chingy, and the St. Lunatics. The lineup read like a mixtape from the early 2000s, and the crowd—decked out in bandanas, Air Force 1s, and vintage jerseys—was ready to party like it was 2002.
From the moment Nelly hit the stage, the amphitheatre pulsed with energy. He opened with “Hot in Herre,” and the crowd erupted, singing every word like gospel. His charisma was magnetic—he didn’t just perform, he commanded. Whether he was bouncing through “Ride wit Me” or slowing it down with “Dilemma,” Nelly reminded everyone why he’s still a force in hip-hop.

But it wasn’t just about the hits. It was about the vibe. The camaraderie between artists, the nostalgia in the air, and the sheer joy of communal celebration. Eve brought fierce elegance, Ja Rule had the crowd chanting like it was Murder Inc. season, and Chingy’s “Right Thurr” had everyone two-stepping in the aisles.
Nelly’s set was a masterclass in showmanship—tight, joyful, and full of heart. He paid homage to his roots, shouted out Chicago, and made sure every fan felt like they were part of something special. By the time he closed with “Country Grammar,” the amphitheatre was a sea of waving hands and glowing smiles.

This wasn’t just a concert. It was a cultural reunion. A reminder that music, when done right, doesn’t age—it evolves, it connects, and it brings people together.

Backpacks & Buzzer-Beaters : Cortez Smith Brings the Love to Austin
This past Friday, the heart of Chicago’s Austin neighborhood pulsed with purpose and pride as Cortez Smith, actor and hometown hero from The Chi, hosted his 1st Annual Back 2 School Bookbag Giveaway and Basketball Tournament. It wasn’t just an event—it was a homecoming, a celebration, and a promise to the next generation.
Held on a sunlit afternoon, the bash transformed the local courts into a hub of joy and generosity. Smith, who grew up just blocks away, returned not as a celebrity, but as a neighbor with a mission: to give back to the community that raised him. And give back he did—with hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies, smiles that stretched for miles, and a basketball tournament that brought out the best in local talent.
The energy was electric. Kids laced up fresh kicks and hit the court, cheered on by families, friends, and a few surprise guests. The tournament wasn’t just about winning—it was about teamwork, mentorship, and showing young people that their dreams are worth chasing. Smith made time for every handshake, every photo, and every word of encouragement, proving that real impact starts with showing up.
This wasn’t just a giveaway—it was a statement. That Austin matters, that Chicago matters! That its youth deserve investment. And that when one of our own rises, they can lift others with them.
As the sun set and the final buzzer sounded, one thing was clear: Cortez Smith didn’t just host an event—he p lanted seeds of hope. And if this was just the first annual, we can’t wait to see how it grows.
